- Unnecessary and unacceptable change in the surrounding environment due to natural events or human activities is called environmental pollution.
- For example, direct and indirect changes in the physical, chemical, and biological properties of air, water, and soil will be harmful to humans and other living beings in environmental pollution.
What are the various reasons for environmental pollution?
- Various reasons like population explosion, industrialization, and indiscriminate use of natural resources, deforestation, and urbanization are responsible for environmental pollution.
Why is there a need to conserve the environment?
- To live a satisfactory life, humans are kept on snatching to nature as much as possible leads to increasing problems.
- If the human has disturbed the environmental balance, then human itself only can conserve and improve the quality of nature.
What is radioactive pollution?
- The radiation emitted either through natural sources or through man-made sources causes radioactive pollution.
- Natural radiation is in the form of ultraviolet and infrared radiation.
- Man-made or Artificial radiations are X-rays and radiations from atomic energy plants.
- All radiations are highly hazardous for living organisms. The impact of radiation is also for a very long time.
- It has brought about major accidental mishaps at Chernobyl, Windscale, and Three Mile Island. These disasters have overwhelmed thousands of people.
What are the precautionary measures has taken by the government for environmental conservation?
Laws are enacted about environmental conservation are given below.
- Forest conservation act, 1980
The lands reserved for forest conservation have been prohibited to use for any other purpose.
- Environmental conservation act, 1986
This act is to control the population and punish the persons or institutes harming the environment.
- As per the wildlife protection act, 1972
The trading of rare animals has been completely banned as per clause, 49 A). As per clause 49 B,) use of articles prepared from the skin or organs of wild animals has been banned. As per clause 49 C), disclosure of the stock of artifacts made from rear wild animals is compulsory.
